Which book do you find yourself regularly rereading, and why?

I reread Martin Buber's "The Way of Man" regularly. At least 2x a year but sometimes more often. I just love the advice it gives but am not so good at practicing.

My current re-read of choice is Patricia Briggs. Both the Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omeaga series really hit home for me.

I'll reread the Hamish Macbeth novels by M.C. Beaton just about anytime. Because I <3 Hamish.

My favorite re-listen is the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. Can't read them in print either - have to listen to them.

What would be your first purchase if you won the lottery?

Logical purchase? Pay off ALLLLLLLL my debts. All of them. And then rejoice.

Frivolous purchase? Probably yarn. Pretty pretty yarn.

Is there any book you can read over and over again without ever getting sick of it? Do you discover something new every time you read it?

Yes! The first three Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey. Love them.

Also, the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon.

What is your all-time favorite, romantic movie scene? What about it speaks to you?

Hm. this is a difficult one!

I'm first off going to have to vote Serenity, when Kaylee decides to live just so she can have "you mean to say as... sex?" with Simon. Aw!

From Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I love the bit at the end when they're starting over in the hallway. The whole speech she gives about how she'll get bored and he'll think she's crazy and he's like... so?

The Chronicles of Riddick at the end when Kira's dying and she says "I was always with you."

The Last of the Mohican's is totally packed with them. I'm fond of the night in the Fort when Cora and Hawkeye get together but the moment at the end after Uncas has fallen off the cliff when Alice turns away and falls. Kills me every single time.

It's not a movie but there's a set of scenes I watch over and over when I need a good cry ... from Dr. Who.

  • End of new Season 1 when Rose comes back as teh Goddess Rose and says "I want you safe, my Doctor." Then he finally gets to kiss her! But I love the way he touches her after he puts the time vortex back. Like she's real and he's concerned about her.
  • End of Season 2 when Rose loses her grip and ends up in the parallel world. Billie Piper knows how to cry I will 100% give her that. Until the end of the episode really. It breaks my heart that he cries. And when she tries to say "I love you" but it takes her two times to get it out. OMG.
  • Utopia, from season 2, when he and Jack are underneath the rocket talking. Possibly the best scene ever from those two together. Brilliant. But you feel that Jack really understands what Rose meant, and that the Doctor hasn't been with anyone who understood that since she was gone.
  • All time favorites from the end of Season 4 though. When he steps out of the Tardis with Donna, talking about Rose, then she says "Why don't you ask her yourself?" and they start running towards each other. That moment is absolutely perfect! Damn Daleks.
  • Then of course the last moment, when she's standing with both Doctors and he says "Does it need saying?" then she asks the New Doctor and he leans in. Yeah. That whole arc has probably ruined Dr. Who for me. How could he ever get over Rose?

Aragon So, perhaps you're all wondering what this place is? That's right ladies & gentlemen, this is the house that, as of July 17th, I will be renting here in Lynchburg. It is conveniently located 15 minutes from both jobs. As you can sortof see on the right there it has off street parking. It also has a decent sized back yard for Morgan to "roam" around in. It's not fenced so she'll be roaming in a supervised manner. I will have to begin doing my own yard work and it does not have a washer and dryer. When it gets a little closer to move in I'll start looking on Freecycle and, failing that, I might try to do a project loan at Lowes for the appliances. It would be amazing to have a dishwasher - one of those portable ones? And maybe a freezer. But I'm dreaming a little big at the moment.

The inside is nice - standard 2 up 2 down - kitchen at the back, living room at the front (on the right as you look at the picture). The front porch is just big enough to be good to sit on. Upstairs there's the 2 bedrooms. My mental image of those is a bit fuzzy but they take up the entire upstairs except the staircase and landing at the very top. The weird thing is the bathroom. There's a little half bath under the stairs then a full bath at the back of the house through the kitchen (on the left). That's pretty far to go in the middle of the night but I'm sure I can manage somehow. The kitchen is pretty strange and will require some .... creative furniture buying but we'll see how that goes too.

At present I'm planning to be roommmate free but I'm also planning to reduce my amount of stuff by 1/3rd. That's a lot. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm super excited!

Though, that reminds me - if anyone is bored the weekend of July 23rd - 26th that's when I'm moving. I could use some help.

Since classes and the good TV ended I've been "reading" a lot. I've really gotten into audiobooks for driving to and from work, though I'm reading a book right now and having two stories going at once can get confusing. So....

Naomi Novik - all 5 Temeraire books (audio)
These were AWESOME by the way.

Karen Chance - the first Cassie Palmer book
(I've noticed that with audiobooks I have more trouble remembering their titles)

I've knocked out a couple of Hamish MacBeth stories...
Death of A Nag and Death of a Macho Man. I've got a few others along the pike as well.

Currently I've just finished Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and immediately started Blood Bound. I don't think the 4 books that have been released so far are going to be enough for me. *sigh*

I've also dabbled in a little Lora Leigh - Coyote's Mate. Though this book was really like a trashy romance novel but with some weird sci-fi stuff going on. (Genetically engineered people/animals. Fun!) Amusing but hardly difficult reading. Then again none of the stuff I've been reading has been all that difficult. But I do want to track down the stuff GSteff assigned for Faith & Doubt last fall. I know I have 2 or 3 of the books in some format already. I may try to read them a little later in the summer. Note the word "Try". Can't guarantee I'll suceed or that I'll even understand what I'm reading. Ah Nietzche, how many layers you have!

It's the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. What season do you want it to be where you live?

While I love the first part of spring when everything starts blooming and is pretty, I hate summer, with a passion so if it was fall and I was anticipating winter that would be awesome. Sadly it is not (as I live in the Northern Hemisphere) and we are anticipating the hot hell-ish weather of summer. yuck.

It's nice that it's sunny today though!

I feel icky. I should really stop reading & checking on blogs that make me feel icky but I ... just ... can't ... stop ... myself, sometimes.

I also feel like i'm trapped in this horrific loop. That I'm doomed to always be a few steps behind and never able to catch up. And oh gods above and below my house is making me nutty. If I wasn't so embarrased about it I might let someone in to help clean it up but this overwhelming sense of entrophy takes over and it's all I can do to wash the dish I used for cereal that morning or pick my clothes up off the floor.

Depression is really not all it's cracked up to be emo-children. Just FYI.

I really hate living in a world where it's fight fight fight for scraps and never ever have time for yourself. And what the hell is "myself" anyway? I spend more time camped in front of my computer watching tv than anything else.

I know I have a history of addiction in my family but drugs or alcohol never really did the trick for me. Stories - the tv version atm, however are 100% like a drug. I CAN NOT STAY AWAY. Because of course then I'd have to face the reality of my life. Which is bleak, and miserable, and empty.

I've been dreaming again though. Sometimes I wonder if that's a blessing or a curse. I know I had one a couple of nights ago where I was living with Aaron Douglas *lol* yes, really. We were having a fight/conversation about milk. It was bizarre. Last night/this morning I was treated to anxiety dreams about work. I hate fear dreams. *shudder* Nothing particularly prohetic lately. But the fact that I'm dreaming period is pretty significant. It's only a matter of time before something comes out. *shrug*

Nay exhausted.
I've had enough of today, enough of this month, enough of this year.

About every half hour I wish I could get up and walk out of my job and not look back. Doesn't really matter which job either. Here's to praying I win the Publisher's Clearing House. Or can find an extra 8 hours a day for sleep and/or personal time. I may call in sick on Thursday. I just don't want to be here. Then again I don't really want to be anywhere.
